THIS IS ADORABLE :D
THIS IS ADORABLE :D
The recent recasting need reminded me of this sketch I did a while back. Hope they find someone soon :)
So I just finished reading Blue Sky by Waffles and, uh
Boy oh boy do I regret not having read this when I saw the Portal 2 fandom drawing stuff for it. You guys were right on the money. It has been a very long time since I have been completely and utterly engaged in a multi-chapter fan fiction to the point where I’m thinking about it before going to sleep or going to run errands. I love it. I would not have expected to fall in love with a Portal 2 fanfic where Chell could talk, but I did. Your fandom is very lucky to have a work as enjoyable and well-crafted as this story.
I am very picky when it comes to fic, and I cannot stop saying good things about it. Easily well on my top five favorite fics ever, if not very close to bumping off the current fic in the number one spot.
If you have not read it already, and you’re not averse to a dash of Chell/Wheatley with some android Wheatley, I would highly recommend it. Hell, if you’ve played Portal 2, but don’t really read much fic, you owe it to yourself to check it out. You might just enjoy it.
I’m almost a bit sad to have finished it, as it’s been occupying quite a bit of these last two or three days going through it.
Check it out. You’ll be glad you did.
Absolutely 100% agree :)
I just got hit with a wall of Blue Sky feels oh my god. I need to read it again. Someone tell me I’m not the only one still feeling the emotional pain from this
Of course not! We have an entire support group dedicated to helping those like yourself dealing with the emotional trauma and euphoria that is Blue Sky. JOIN US :D
It seems that due to circumstances beyond his control, our current Aaron Halifax has had to bow out of the project. As we have reached chapter 2 however, we are in DESPERATE NEED of an Aaron in order to move forward!
So we’re reopening casting for this character. If you feel that you can pull off the role of a tall, powerful, grizzle-haired man of about fifty with a lined, no-nonsense face and craggy brows that suggest that here is a man it would be better to have as a friend than an enemy, please send us an audition tape! Here’s a batch of lines for you to read in any such audition (I left a bit of narration for the sake of direction, but please just read the dialogue):
"Well, I better get hoofin’. Store won’t open itself. See you later, Mystery Girl. Hey," he added, pausing, "you see that shooting star this morning? Came right down over the northeast fields just before dawn. Coulda knocked a vort’s eye out- brightest thing you ever saw. Good omen, huh?"
"Well, if Mystery Girl says it can keep till tomorrow, it can keep till tomorrow," said Aaron easily. "I got to get back, anyhow, before Garret brings the place down round his ears. Thinks he can rig up some new kind of relay to fix all the signal problems he’s been having, which is great, ‘cept he’s turning the whole damn stockroom on its head to do it. I don’t understand half of what’s coming out of that kid’s mouth these days."
"You know, moment I set eyes on him, I thought he reminded me of someone. Took me till just now to place it." His eyes stayed on her, kindly, concerned. "Someone I met ‘bout four years ago now. Just walked into town one day out of nowhere, just like that. Jumping at shadows, looking at every little thing like they’d never seen the like of it before, like any second they were going to wake up and find themselves somewhere else. Somewhere they weren’t too partial to, either. Now, that someone… she was strong, and she got better. Him, though… Kind of squirrelly, isn’t he?"
Chapter 14 - The Terrible Idea
Look at the beautiful combination of apprehension and determination on her face. Fantastic.
Very quick thing for Foxglove. <3
This moment in the book…so much feels!
I love how externally Chell is serious and sharp, but on the inside is scarred by her past. In contrast Wheatley is externally fearful and insecure, but on the inside, when it really matters, has courage and heart. They balance each other so well. :3
Thank you very much, and welcome to the Support Group! Please pick up a bagel and enjoy your stay :D
Wheatley bb you have enough trouble walking without being unable to see where you’re going
Chell is very impressed you can read now please look up before you break something <3
Chapter 13: The Old Friend
I had a lot of issues with this one :P Early morning light apparently isn’t as easy as I thought :/
A picture I probably spent too much time on coloring.. I also made this crappy little gif
Awwww look at this dorky cutie
Last night I actually had a dream, that I was in a theater, and a trailer for a Blue Sky movie had come up. And my in-dream jaw dropped when I saw it because A) Blue Sky movie! and B) it was just such an epic trailer!
if I do say so myself
It started with a shot of the earth, from space, followed by another shot of the Sun, earth, and the moon, with two tiny little dots floating above the moon, and you hear Wheatley’s voice say: “I wish I could take it all back…”
Then there’s this sortof soft little “bom” sound as the screen goes black with white text saying “Based on the novel by Erin Flanagan”
Flashby-clip of the meteor hitting Wheats and Kevin.
Black screen white text: “Four years after Portal 2”
(Starting right about now, a reeeaaallllyy slowed-down, piano version of Mr. Blue Sky starts playing.)
Shot of wheat field and ramshackle little town (the movie was live-action, by the way) and in the foreground a dilapidated sign saying “Welcome to EADEN”
Black screen white text: “Meteors…”
Cut to Aaron talking to Chell and saying: “Some kinda shooting star… came right down outa the northeast”
Cut to Chell turning her head sharply in the direction of the camera (but not looking at it). Another soft little “bom” sound.
Cut to GLaDOS’s chamber, panning down from the ceiling, before cutting again to a charred Wheatley in that dark basement, lying in a puddle of water.
He groans: “Ooh. I’m back, aren’t I?”
A shadow passes over him from the right of the frame. Wheatley does the optic-equivalent of wincing/shrinking away, and we hear: “Hello. Moron." Fade to black.
White text: “Signals…”
The radio on Chell’s windowsill.
Wheatley’s voice: “Yeah, thing is, I’m not in space anymore.”
(Cut to the longfall boots, with Chell reaching for them as Wheatley’s voice continues)
"…And I was sortof hoping you might…"
(Chell leaving her house and closing the door behind her)
"…get me out of here?"
Cut to Wheatley suspended by that tangle of wires as the wall opposite him EXPLODES due to Chell’s ‘manual override’
Black screen white text: “And that tricky little thing called…”
Lightning-quick montage of scenes involving Chell trying to get out of the facility with Wheatley, up until he shorts out and she comes across the avatar device.
Black screen white text: “…Humanity.”
Chell plugs Wheatley’s shell into the hard light avatar device, camera follows the little electrical thingy down the cord, and then
HUGE WHITE FLASH
Light fades and cut to Chell, who lowers her arm from where she’d shielded her eyes with it, and then stares for a moment…
Cut to title: Blue Sky.
…And the minute I woke up, I was SO DISAPPOINTED that it wasn’t actually a thing. But still. Pretty cool for a dream, huh?
Very cool! I think we all have dreamt at least once about a Blue Sky film, right Support Group? :D
(This mix, like everything I do in this fandom, heavily inspired by Blue Sky by waffleguppies)
Tomorrow Will be Kinder - The Secret Sisters | Things That You Know - The Wailin’ Jennys | Ashes on Your Eyes - Deb Talan | Solsbury Hill - Peter Gabriel | Chocolate - Snow Patrol | Go Places - The New Pornographers | Clean Light - The Mowgli’s | Don’t Carry It All - The Decemberist
Oh wow, this is excellent :D
Because we love to wallow in glorious misery, of course :)
